Salvation Army, Amish & Puritan Young Ladies

A traditional Salvation Army uniform is not exactly a uniform that immediately springs to mind when considering what to wear to a spanking party! However, in this small selection of photos from a Blushes Magazine photo-story called ‘Chapter & Verse’ featuring a young lady dressed in a ‘Sally Army’ uniform, such an outfit does make the model look rather fetching. Here she is walking down the stairs and then back up revealing her ‘charms’… a pair of beautifully rolling rounded buttocks!

The young lady is spanked and caned in a carpentry workshop – not the most obvious place for spanking young ladies, but it does have a convenient high wooden stool ideal for the purpose. She has a perfect bottom which just cries out for a spanking, so I couldn’t resist using a fair number of the photos from the story!

The Salvation Army uniform reminded me of the ‘uniform’ that Amish and Puritan women wore. To the Amish, a dress code is employed to prevent vanity and boastfulness, encouraging the Amish people to conform to their community and to focus on qualities other than outward appearance. Amish clothing is never gaudy or flashy, and never draws attention to any one individual. The Amish believe that this modest apparel is an expression of humility and faith that distinguishes the Amish community from the modern outside world. Many aspects of Amish dress are based in scripture. Here is Kelly McGillis in the nail-biting film ‘Witness’, also starring Harrison Ford, revolves around an Amish community:

Amish women and girls wear long dresses that are never shorter than calf length. The dresses may be in a variety of solid colors depending on the individual community but are always covered with black or white aprons. The hair of Amish women and girls must always be covered in public. Most women and girls wear white prayer caps. These caps are held on by strings tied under the chin, although young girls choose to toss the straps around when flirting with boys!  Married women sometimes wear dark bonnets over the prayer caps. Their dress is fairly similar to the Puritans of the C17 and early C18.

The Amish are firm believers in ‘spare the rod and spoil the child’ when it comes to disciplining their children. This stems from the Puritans of the C17 to whom they are fairly closely related. In the colonial era, the Puritan belief that humankind is innately tainted by the Original Sin of Adam and Eve led adults to see children as contaminated by an evil element that needed to be driven out by force. Puritans believed that all disobedience and academic error was the work of Satan, and children’s innate proclivity for evil had to be destroyed through pain and humiliation. ‘To spare the rod,’ it was believed, led inevitably to spoiling the child, so slapping, spanking, and whipping were generally understood as beneficial ‘educational tools’.

Puritan-style historical costume spankings appear in a film made by ‘Spanking Epics’ called ‘The Puritans’. The principal spanker is Keith Jones. In the film, two wayward young ladies are disciplined severely by their fathers with their hands, leather straps and hickory switches. They are all dressed in authentic period Puritan costumes of the C17. Notice that the girls do not wear any underwear as drawers were not worn under dresses at that time, so it was very easy to bare their bottoms when a spanking was to be given. You’ll notice the use of a wooden butter pat in the first collage, perhaps the forerunner of a proper spanking paddle?

Here is a  beautifully drawn illustration by Paula Meadows to accompany a story called ‘The Curate’s Wife’ by Paul Melrose (Peter Birch) in a ‘Februs Magazine’. In the story the young Puritan Curate’s wife (a rather dull/dour man) is publicly birched in the town square. You can see the style of dress and prayer caps/hats worn by C18 Puritan ladies in the background. The poor curate’s wife herself does not have a stitch of clothing on, but she does ultimately enjoy the ‘fire’ lit in her loins by the birching!
